So, what is a ‘Crafternoon’? It’s craft en masse!
A Crafternoon is a casual get-together of friends (and soon-to-be-friends) where you can bring your own craft projects to work on.
BRING YOUR CRAFT PROJECT
Bring your knitting, crocheting or something like it, grab a cup of coffee or mulled wine and warm treat from the cafe, listen to the live music and soak up the atmosphere of Winterland.
For those who need a little inspiration and assistance in the crafty area, there are also be activities for people to learn….
MAKE COATHANGER & RIBBON PERSON FOR A COMMUNAL ARTWORK
Take part in a big growing communal artwork that will end up being exhibited at Alfred Park. Jess Cook, a local independent artist from Token Imagination, will hold a fun open workshop all afternoon where people make ‘abstract fence folk’ using wire coathangers and ribbon to make a mixture of brightly coloured abstract shapes. The fence folk will become part of a big public artwork Token Imagination are doing for City of Sydney’s Art and About this year.
TAKE HOME YOUR OWN MOSAIC
Caitlin will be teaching you how to do a mini mosaic project. Using small pieces of coloured pottery, create a decorative piece of mosaic for you to take home.
LEARN TO KNIT OR WEAVE
The desperately crafty folks from Knitty Gritty and Loopy will be helping you start a knitting or weaving project. They do clever things like make baskets out of recycled bags. They can teach you how in the free workshops and demonstrations throughout the afternoon. Bring some plastics bag – coloured ones if you’ve got them.
LIVE MUSIC
Folk music from local musicians will be the backdrop to your craftinesds, featuring Portable Junk, Ngaratya, Nadeena Dixon, Melodie Nelson and Ryan Nicolussi.
